This one really got to me! This is why nobody trusts the service industry! There are so many things wrong with this case. I’ll never take your money without counseling you about what I would do, even if that means you walk out of MacMedics without spending a dime! Honesty: The #1 reason I am one of the last Apple Authorized Service Providers left standing.
Nothing ticks us off more than seeing other repair shops take advantage of customers. This is especially true when it comes to vintage or obsolete machines. When a customer brings one of these Vintage or Obsolete Macs into our shop, our first question is, why do you need to fix this machine? Somebody needed this machine for a specific reason to run older software; there are many ways to take care of the problem without actually repairing the machine. For instance, in this particular Mac’s case, we probably could’ve sold the customer a new machine for about $100 and maybe transplanted their hard drive into a newer Mac.
At Mac Medics, we have two rules of service: Rule one on Repairs: Don’t spend more than 50% of the replacement cost, and Rule two: Don’t spend more than the machine is worth.
